A Reflection from Learnlife Barcelona

As we conclude the second cycle of the 2019-2020 cohort, Learnlife Barcelona Director, Sam Lardner, takes a moment to reflect on the events of the past few weeks in an open letter to families.

Sam Lardner’s letter to Learnlife Barcelona families

Dear families,

As the Learning Team concludes an intensive five days of evaluation and planning this week, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our shared experience over the past month. Our shift to remote online learning was on time, inspiring other educational groups to follow our lead, and on target in that we knew we would need to adjust, adapt and respond to our learners and our families on a daily basis.

The Learnlife Barcelona community has learned volumes in a very short period of time, and this learning was done under the storm clouds of negative news and unforeseen pressures in our homes and offices. We have all had to be resilient, and we have all needed to be empathetic and open. It was very uplifting to watch the [RE]LEARN event yesterday and see that we were not alone in our experiences. Far from that, we are poised in the epicentre of a growing wave of belief in inspirational learner-centered experiences developed within a framework of positive relationships and fresh culture.

We have appreciated more than ever the fact that our remarkable learners spring from remarkable families, all of whom see the light of what we are doing with their kids even when the path seems, at times, obscure. That's what leadership is about, and we thank you for your input, constructive criticism and outright support. We need you to lead with us, together.

Next Tuesday, we will relaunch our online activities, many of which have been influenced and inspired by our growing ecosystem of collaborating experts and learning communities. Now, it is my sincere hope that the Learning Team rests deeply and well and that all of you continue to find the brightest side of your family lives during a well-deserved long weekend.

All the best,

Sam

Last week at our end of cycle virtual Open Mic ("Open Cam"), learners and families were shown this video to see some of the highlights from the year at Learnlife Barcelona so far.
