The Learning Objectives at Learnlife During the Pandemic

Written by Learnlife | Mar 31, 2020 9:45:00 PM

We were able to make quite a seamless transition to remote learning, and now that our programmes are online, we've had people ask us what a day-to-day looks like for our learners and if learning objectives have changed. Although we've had to make some changes (nobody has a CNC machine at home), it's business as usual for most of the other building blocks, which are what we call the subjects, or classes. Here's a look at the Changemakers' schedule, learners aged 16-18.

The Changemakers' Schedule:

11:00-11:10 - Check-in: A Google Hangouts check-in is used for taking attendance and as a quick check of how all of the Changemakers are doing, as well as how working remotely is going for them.

11:10-12:00 - Genius Hour: This hour is dedicated to learning and developing a new skill. Examples include learning a new software program (Audacity, OpenShot), home management (home repair, making decorations), art (painting, calligraphy), mental skills (habit building, critical thinking) and so on. Evidence of this must be uploaded on each learner’s Monday.com board.

12:00-12:15 - Break

12:15-13:30 - Real talk/ Project management/ Future oriented/ Professional world/ Portfolio: Depending on the day, learners work on different learning objectives that prepare them for their professional future. For example, if they are working on project management, their deliverables are: a timeline of collaboration, strengths for collaboration, an hourly schedule, and a project management plan for 5 weeks.

13:30-14:30 - Lunch Break: If they're not having lunch with their families, learners are encouraged to socialize by having lunch with their peers, virtually!

14:30-17:00 - Studio Time: Learners enter different Google Hangout rooms to continue their work on the studios they were working on in the physical space such as multimedia, music, carpentry, fashion, 3D modelling/printing and cooking. They have the option of continuing to work on their levels within the studios or developing their own projects.

17:00- 17:30 - Daily Updates: With help from their learning guide, the learners log all of their work on evidence sheets and prepare for the following day. Keeping track of the learning and documenting is an essential part of the programme.
